Laments of a Quiet Wild

Christina is a documentary photographer whose work often revolves around themes of Life, Nature and Faith. Her main driving force within her work is the exploration of the human experience. In previous projects this has been the documenting of protests and the interviewing of religious leaders. Until recently her work has always been focused on the external human experience. With the untimely passing of her mother, for the first time, her gaze has turned inwards resulting in the creation of her inaugural personal project - ‘Laments of a Quiet Wild’

As a project it existed primarily as a creative outlet to help navigate the emotions of grief and as a way to help process what had occurred. As it was a longform project spanning across the seasons of the year, Christina decided to base her work around documenting spaces outside. These places were chosen due to their emotional ties to her family or childhood. This meant that as she consistently documented these areas, their symbolic values would change over the year as leaves wilted away and then flowers bloomed once again. These images would create impact that spoke to the different experiences within grief and life.

As she created her work the outcome evolved with it, she decided on ‘Laments of a Quiet Wild’ to be a photobook as this made the most sense, for it allowed the viewer to experience the journey that the artist had gone through. Christina’s book has been produced with the hope that her work will help others who have experienced loss to not feel alone.
