System error

System Error: began as a self-portrait made with a handheld scanner, a device built to record physical surfaces and convert them into digital information. Rather than producing a clear likeness, the scan broke the face into lines, distortion and interference, leaving an image caught between recognition and abstraction.

The title points beyond technical fault to a broader question about how digital systems represent and contain identity. Photography is trusted to stabilise the self; here, that trust is interrupted.
