Nude (Self-Portrait)
Madeleine Smethurst is a graduating artist whose photography explores her point of view behind the use of black and white film. Presenting various subjects over the last three years of her university degree including places of nature, still life and the body, she has returned to the body in her final year.
The final project of her university career is a presentation of 7 framed black and white self-portraits. Using 5x4 film and a shutter release to take nude self-portraits in a studio that explore how the body can contort and present itself. She presents the imagery in a non-sexual lens as she does not view the body as inherently sexual.
Having exhibited in the Boscome Arts Depot, Auger Collective and this month she will exhibit in TheGallery at AUB and Copelands Gallery in Peckham, she is excited to start her photographical career after university.
